Part of what we do here at the Tyrone Law Firm, is giving back to the community. This year, we were proud sponsors of Pound the Pavement for Peter (PPP). This is a 5k fun run for children with special needs that was started by Anne Park and Matt Hopkins, parents of Peter Hopkins.
Peter Hopkins was born in 2006 and at 4 months old, his parents were given the news that Peter had a Peroxisomal Disorder. Peter passed away right before his 4th birthday, but only reached the milestones of a 3-5 month old. Peter had a feeding tube, couldn’t walk or talk, but his parents were proud of him. In his last few months, Peter lost the ability to do much of anything, including smiling, but he still brought so much joy to everyone who met him.
Organizing PPP gives Anne and Matt hope and reminds them of just how special Peter was. Through the race, Peter’s parents feel that his legacy and love for life live on. Often, parents of children with special needs, have hopes and dreams for their children that seem out of reach. Anne and Matt want to ensure that these families have every opportunity.
Nelson Tyrone, along with his daughter, Munday participated along with over 500 other people and helped raise over $140,000. Donations are still open, so this number should rise. All proceeds from this race will be split between the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, The Adaptive Learning Center, and the Medically Complex Care Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to benefit families of children living with rare diseases.
